ORBIS is a nonprofit, global organization whose mission is to eliminate avoidable blindness in people living in developing countries by training local eye health practitioners to prevent and treat blindness.
According to the World Health Organization, 45 million people worldwide are blind and 80 percent of the time, their blindness could have been prevented or treated.
In addition to making cash donations, United Mileage Plus members and Asia Miles members can donate miles to help transport ophthalmic experts to sight-saving programs throughout the world. For 35,000 miles, one ORBIS doctor could be sent on a trip to restore sight or prevent blindness in Africa, India, China or another destination.
