September 16, 2001 -- A plan to use United Airlines Mileage Plus to benefit The Rotary Foundation's Grants for Rotary Volunteers program and individual club or district programs
Rotary International is pleased to announce its participation in the United Airlines Mileage Plus Charity Miles Program. This facility allows Rotarians as well as non-Rotarians to donate miles in 10,000-mile increments to benefit the Grants for Rotary Volunteers program. Individuals who wish to make mileage donations should call United Airlines Mileage Plus at 1-800-421-4655 and indicate to the customer service representative that they are interested in making a charity miles donation to benefit the Rotary International account. The Charity Miles Program will also accept mileage donations from the accounts of deceased Rotarians and their partners provided that the Mileage Plus accounts in question are still open.
Alternatively, Rotary clubs and districts can use this Charity Miles Program to earmark specific mileage donations to provide free airfare for use in benefiting their own international humanitarian projects. To take advantage of this option, please contact Robert Mintz, Travel Manager, Rotary International (tel) 847-866-3445 (fax) 847-866-6297 or download the instruction and donation forms from our forms page. Clubs or districts providing donations not meeting the minimum miles needed for free travel agree that these miles will be used for the benefit of the Grants for Rotary Volunteers program.
Mileage donations to the Rotary International Mileage Plus Charity Miles account are not tax deductible and not eligible for Paul Harris Fellow recognition.
