Fisher DeBerry

United States Air Force Academy Head Football Coach

"I am very flattered by the invitation to be the Honorary Chairman for the 2004 Komen Colorado Springs Race for the Cure ©. I've admired, for a long time, the tremendous work that you all do in this community. I am happy to assist in any way that I can. I respect the cause so much, and I know that in a short period of time, we're going to be able to find a cure for breast cancer.

I invite you to join us on Sunday, August 8, 2004, for the 10th Annual Komen Colorado Springs Race for the Cure. Together we can run or walk to bring us one step closer to a cure." - Fisher

Faith, family and the Falcons! Nothing is more important to Fisher DeBerry, who is in his 20th season as the head football coach at Air Force. As successful as he is colorful and charitable, the 65-year-old DeBerry has become as much a part of the AFA landscape as Falcon Stadium and the Cadet Chapel.

DeBerry has dominated service academy football. In 1999, DeBerry became the winningest coach in service academy football history when AFA knocked off Washington in Seattle. He has an amazing 32-6 against Army and Navy and has led the Academy to 14 of its 16 Commander-in-Chief's trophy titles.

Deeply religious, DeBerry and his wife, LuAnn are active in church, charity and community affairs. The coach gives motivational speeches to religious and corporate groups. DeBerry has strong ties to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and in 2001 authored a book "For God and Country" of which the proceeds go to the FCA. The DeBerrys have assisted fund-raising efforts for Easter Seals, the March of Dimes, the Salvation Army, the American Heart Association, and now the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Colorado Springs Race for the Cure.

He was also the 2000 chairperson for the city-wide Relay for Life sponsored by the American Cancer Society. In 2001, he was honored with the State Farm Coach of Distinction Award for his efforts on and off the field. The coach is also active nationally in the American Football Coaches Association and serves as chairman of the ethics committee.
